Learning to Trust God with the Seeds We Plant

We found a little basket of angels on our last thrift store run. I had to take a double look when I saw “$1 – basket included” written on the tag.

Ten angels, which made them ten cents each.

It felt like a God whisper.

MG and I looked at each other and smiled, both thinking the same thing. We could turn these into encouragement gifts to leave along the way on our upcoming family road trip.

A Simple Idea Becomes a Sacred Tradition

It’s something we do often, creating small bundles of encouragement to leave behind wherever we go. Usually, we include a note with a verse and a link for the finder to visit and share how the card touched them. We’ve loved seeing the stories that come from it and how a small act of kindness can meet someone right where they are.

But this time it felt different.

This time, I told MG I wanted to leave them blindly, with no way for us to know who found them or how they were received. Just a quiet act of love, left in the hands of a God who already knew where each one would land.

The Lesson of the Unseen

As we packed the angels and the handmade prayer cards, each with an uplifting verse about hope, peace, or love, I talked with MG about how sometimes, we don’t get to see the outcome of the seeds we plant.

We may never know who finds the gift, reads the verse, or grows closer to God because of it.
And that’s okay.

Because faith isn’t about seeing results.
It’s about trusting the One who multiplies what we offer, even when we don’t get to watch it grow.

As we stopped along the way at multiple gas stations and rest areas, MG carefully placed each angel and prayer card where someone might stumble upon it.

Each time, before we left it, we prayed a simple prayer that God would send the right person at the right time, and it would be just what they needed to hear today.

The Joy of Letting Go

There was something freeing about leaving them without expecting a response.
No tracking link. No story to follow up on. Just simple obedience and quiet trust.

That’s what I want MG to carry with her – the joy of giving without needing to see the return.
To know that even unseen acts of love still ripple out into eternity.

Because sometimes, the most beautiful stories are the ones we never get to read, but God does.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the joy of sowing seeds of encouragement even when we don’t see the harvest.
Teach us to give freely, to love quietly, and to trust You completely.
May every act of kindness point someone closer to You.
And when we can’t see the outcome, remind us that You always can.

Reflection Prompt

Think of one simple way you could plant a seed of encouragement this week. It could be a note, a smile, a prayer, or a small act of kindness.

Can you let it go without knowing the outcome, trusting God to water it in His own time?
